"How long does it take for the AccuMAP-5 kit to arrive?"
The kit will be shipped to you directly from ZRT labs in Oregon. It will take less than 1 week to reach you and likely sooner.
"How long will it take to get my results back from ZRT labs?"
Completion of the hormone tests typically takes about 3-5 days from the date ZRT receives your sample. When ZRT completes all the tests, they will send an email to you the next business day with a link to download your report as a PDF. In addition, they will send a hard copy to you by mail.
"Do I have to pay for shipping when I send my AccuMAP-5 kit to the lab?
No. You do not have to pay shipping when sending your AccuMAP-5 sample back to the lab. You will be provided with a pre-paid UPS return label on the kit’s return envelope. You will only need to drop it off at a UPS collection box/center.
"Why is saliva better than blood testing for hormones?"
Steroid hormones in the bloodstream are 95-99% bound to carrier proteins, and in this form are unavailable to target tissues. Saliva testing measures the amount of hormone available to target tissues – the bioavailable amount. For this reason, saliva testing better relates to specific symptoms of excess or deficiency and is a good option for monitoring hormone therapy.
In addition to that, we also know that if you use a TOPICAL treatment of hormone supplementation (which is now known to be the best form of hormone supplementation - bypassing the liver), blood will not adequately measure the levels of hormones!
It has taken many years to figure out why saliva is more accurate than blood and it has been confusing doctors, even Anti-Aging doctors, for many years. Finally, the research has identified that TOPICALLY applied hormones travel MOSTLY in the lymphatic system and NOT the blood system. The hormones are taken up by the tissues and released slowly into mostly the lymphatic system - which is NOT measurable in the blood.
Making it even more difficult for patients is that Saliva isn't well known in the Conventional Doctor community. This can be very confusing to patients since their doctors tell them Saliva isn't the right form of testing.
However, Saliva IS the method Hormone Specialty Laboratories, like ZRT choose in order to help doctors understand the hormones that are FREE for the body’s use, and not just hormones bound to protein and Unusable by the body.
ZRT is one of the first laboratories to measure hormones in saliva and helped establish the method that made saliva hormone testing commercially viable for health care providers and patients around the globe.

"What time of my cycle should I test my hormones?"
Timing is everything — especially when it comes to a woman’s menstrual cycle. The average cycle is around 28 days long, but in general, anything between 21 days and 35 days is considered normal.
Your cycle begins on the first day of your period and goes until the first day of your next period. If you are still cycling, you want to test your hormones on days 19, 20 or 21.
If you no longer cycle, you can collect any day.
If you have irregular or unpredictable cycles, you can collect any day you are not bleeding.
"Can I test even if I already take hormones?"
Yes, absolutely! Dr. Karen and your kit carefully defines exactly when to use your last dose of hormones before testing. In most cases, you test 12 to 24 hours after your last hormone dose taken. This is all easily defined in your kit!
"Should I test if I have had a hysterectomy?"
Yes! Absolutely. If you still have your ovaries, you will still want to know how your ovaries are doing in their production of hormones. You won’t have any other way of knowing without testing since you will no longer be having a period.
If you had your ovaries removed as well, then you fall into the postmenopause category and will definitely want to test to optimize your hormones!
"Can I test if I use pellet therapy?"
Absolutely! The timing of your test will be defined well in the kit. Generally speaking, testing when you have pellets should occur between the second half of your pellet “life expectancy” through the end of your pellet’s expected length of effectiveness.
"Should I test even if I don't want to use bioidentical hormones?"
Knowledge is power. Knowing your body and hormone levels is essential to your overall wellness and feeling your best. It could be that you are not interested in bioidentical hormones, but knowing if your body is lacking nutrients that can be replaced with natural supplements can help with deficiency causing diseases, antiaging, energy, skin, hair, gut health, brain health, cancer prevention, lower heart disease and stroke risks, and so much more.
"Will you bill my insurance company?"
No, this opportunity is not available with insurance reimbursement.
